Chapter Philanthropy

CRAWFISH BOIL

Crawfish Boil is the largest and highest raising of our philanthropies. Each April, we host a crawfish boil on our front lawn with crawfish, potatoes, and corn on the cob straight from Louisiana!  We have a live band and crawfish eating contest. All proceeds benefit Books for Keeps–  a local, Athens non-profit that raises money for children from low-income families who cannot afford books to read over the summer. We are proud to say that we received an Honorable Mention for the Kappa Philanthropy Signature Event Award for our achievements from 2014 to 2016. In 2009, we were given the National Outstanding Philanthropy Award and in 2012 the Outstanding Philanthropy Award for our province and we raised over $61,000. Because of these outstanding fundraising efforts, we received an award from Nationals for the most money raised for a philanthropy across all Kappa chapters! We are proud of how much we have been able to raise for such a generous cause and can't wait to continue these efforts.  Find out more information about this local Athens philanthropy here: http://booksforkeeps.org.

KAPPA COLOR RUN

In the Spring of 2014, our chapter hosted our first Kappa Color Run. We were very excited to expand our philanthropic efforts and Color Run has been a huge success.  All of the proceeds of the event benefited Books For Keeps. We are thankful to have started this second event to support an organization many of the girls in our chapter are active in and feel passionate about. We are thrilled to say that the Color Run raised $7,000 for this deserving organization in 2015, and over $9,000 in 2016, which surpassed our goals both years! We are very proud that this event has continued to grow and exceed our expectations every year!
